Available Testing

Skin Prick Testing
Skin prick testing is the gold standard of allergy testing. When doing testing, we apply a small, diluted amount of the allergen on the inner forearm or back and prick the skin with a small metal lancet. We get clear results in 10 minutes. This is often done during the initial consultation.

Food Challenges
Our food challenges follow a standardised ASCIA protocol which involves a gradual exposure, increasing the amount of food consumed in a controlled and supervised environment. This is to determine if the food causes an allergic reaction. We allocate 4-5 hours for this procedure.

Intradermal Testing
Intradermal testing involves injecting the drug allergen under the skin at different dilutions (ie. 1:1000, 1:100, 1:10) to try and demonstrate or exclude an allergy which often is a prequal to a formal drug challenge to quantify risk.

Drug Challenges
Intradermal testing involves injecting the drug allergen under the skin at different dilutions (ie. 1:1000, 1:100, 1:10) to try and demonstrate or exclude an allergy which often is a prequal to a formal drug challenge to quantify risk.

Biological Therapies
Biological therapies are targeted treatments that are useful in both inflammatory and allergic conditions. Common biological therapies include Omalizumab (Xolair) for chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), Mepolizumab (Nucala) for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP), or Dupilumab (Dupixent) for severe eczema. There are similar biological therapies for severe asthma, severe rheumatoid, or severe psoriatic arthritis. All these biologics are accessible via the PBS under the care of an immunologist.
At Suncoast Immunology and Allergy, we offer treatments for allergic and immunological conditions. These range from immunotherapy for environmental allergens such as dust mites, grass, and animal dander, through to venom immunotherapy for those who have had severe reactions/anaphylaxis to bees and/or wasps.
We also provide biologic therapies such as Xolair, Dupilumab, and Mepolizumab to assist with managing a variety of immunological conditions and allergies.
For those with immune deficiencies, Immunoglobulin Therapy is available. Our expert team tailors each treatment plan to ensure the best outcomes for your needs.
